Product Review: Boscia Luminizating Charcoal Mask

It is no secret that I enjoy a charcoal mask. In fact, charcoal masks have been reviewed time and time again on Lidsandtricks.

That being said I wanted to see how a mid range brand such as Bosica differed from the charcoal masks of Amazon.

I was shocked when I noticed quite a difference in formula.

The Product

You can purchase the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask from Sephora at a cost of $44 CAD. The product comes in a 2.8. FL.oz squeeze tube.

When dispersed the product comes out as black goo with no fragrance.

The Application

Apply directly to clean skin avoid all areas with hair!

As this mask began to dry, I noticed it had a WAY stickier formula then the cheaper black masks. It set tightly on the skin and I could already tell this mask was going to rip out my peach fuzz.

The second it dried, I immediately noticed a minty like feeling as the mask dried on my face. From the ingredients list, there is no mention of menthol as a product. However, it does feel that way. There are plant extracts that are present in the formula, including grapefruit extract, eucalyptus extract, and rosemary extract that might be the cause of this.

It has been a week since I did this mask and my skin remains smooth as a baby’s bottom.

However, that could be due to the amount of peach fuzz that was ripped out at the time of removal. I have not seen any breakouts caused by this!

Final Thoughts?

I did really enjoy this formula, however, I would not repurchase. There are cheaper black masks available that do an almost identical job.

I must say that the Boscia Luminizing Black Mask has the longest lasting result of the black masks tested.  I can’t justify a price of $44 CAD when I can get other products for $5.

As a word of caution for those who have acne prone or sensitive skin. There are known plant irritants in this formulation. In addition to a skin binding formula that will remove any hair. Make sure to take the proper after care and cleanse skin.

For such a sticky formula, it was expecting some black head removal but was disappointed, when other black masks do remove black heads.

Products Revisited: Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation

Lately, I have been wearing a lot of old products that were my staples and even HOLY GRAILS.

–and the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation was one of them.

It has been about a year since I stopped wearing this foundation. So how have my thoughts changed on this product, you may ask.

The answer is quite a bit.

Image result for tarte amazonian clay

I used to enjoy this foundation because it was full coverage. However, it was difficult to build with out the foundation looking unblended. Another big pet peeve was the emphasis of dry patches and fine lines.

My favourite feature of this foundation was for its oil control properties. However, since trying out other oil control foundations and then going back to this, I was left feeling less than desired.

It seems like when the Tarte Foundation is compared to other long lasting foundations the Tarte foundation under performed. Oil break through was evident after 4-5 hour when I had grown used to limited oil break through by 8 hours.

In Closing

Tarte is still one of my favourite brands and I stand by their claim to “high power naturals.”

I still love this foundation. It’s great for when I want to cover redness just not when I’m having a break out as it will be emphasised through dry patches.

This foundation great for days when you want oil control just not for a long work day.

Quick Underarm Workout

For the last couple months, I have been sharing my weight loss journey with all of you. Right now I am in the midst of getting  “bikini ready” to go to Cuba in late September.

Here is a quick workout (10-15 mins) to work out your bingo wings a.k.a underarms. Oh yeah, you better bet this burns.

Underarm Circuit

Forward Row with Dumbells

Image result for forward row with dumbbells

This exercise is great for engaging muscles all over the body including the back and legs. With the forward row, you are fighting gravity. It is essential to keep a straight back when doing this exercise with your legs slightly apart and bent.

Using 5lbs dumbells do this in sets of 15-20.

Forward Fly With Dumbells

Image result for forward fly with dumbbells

Here’s an exercise that I have a love-hate relationship with. I hate doing this exercise but wow do you feel good after.

Like the Foward Row, it is crucial to keep a correct posture when executing this exercise. Keep your back straight with your legs apart and slightly bent. You will feel this exercise all through your arms and back.

Using 5lbs dumbells do in sets of 15-20. Try to match the above set.

Tricep Extensions

I personally like to do this exercise by itself when I’m about to hit my cool down. However, as part of this superset, it’s the grand finale and a burner.

I can do triceps extensions either standing or sitting down. Sitting down will ensure more stability when doing this exercise. I prefer to these on each individual arm.

For best results keep as close to your head as possible.

Do with a 10lbs weight in a set of 15 with both hands or individually with 5lbs dumbells in a set of 30.

The Superset (Complete 3-4 for 10-15 minutes)

Here is the set in all of its glory.

Forward Rows X15-20 times.

Forward Fly X1520 times.

Tricep Extensions X20-30 times each arm or X15 with one dumbell.

REPEAT 2-3 more times.

Peanut Butter Carob Balls

As I’ve been learning to be gluten free, I have been bringing you the recipes and different ingredients I have been experimenting with.

Today’s focus was on carob, a fruit which pods are roasted. Carob is used as an alternative to chocolate. I just happened to have a bag of carob powder and wanted to experiment with it.

1/2 cup of carob powder

1/2 cup of honey

1 cup of crunchy peanut butter

4 teaspoons of sugar (optional)

rice flour for dusting

Measure out the carob powder and add to a medium mixing bowl. Measure out the peanut butter and add to the carob powder. Stir the mixture until well combined.

Add the honey and mix until even.

I added sugar as I was giving this to someone who has never had carob before and wanted to mask the bitterness without compromising the flavour. This is optional and up to you.

If you have more honey I would recommend that. I just happened to have run out.

Roll into small bite size balls.

Then dust the balls with rice flour.

I personally like to keep these in the freezer to make them chewy. Again this is up to you.

Bon appetit.

Smoked Copper Cut Crease Look

It’s been ages since I’ve done a cut crease so I figured it was time to do one for you guys. So today I am giving you this Smoked Copper Cut Crease Look.

For this look, I used the Urban Decay Vice XX reloaded palette. If you don’t have this palette, the Morphe 35O is a great alternative.

Steps are as follows…

  1. Using a fluffy blending brush and coat the lid entirely to brow bone using the shade Anonymous.
  2. With a pencil brush, cut out the cut crease with the shade Suspend from inner eye to outer eye. Use the tale of your eye brow for guidance and natural eyelid to determine the shape of the cut crease.
  3. With a fluffy tapered blending brush, blend Suspend into the brow bone.
  4. Using concealer of your choice, and a small detailer brush, coat the lid up to the line of the cut crease.
  5. Lightly pat on the shade Moonflower on top of the concealer. I recommend using a small panel brush for this. With the same brush place below the waterline.
  6. With a concealer brush, highlight the brow Bone and the inner corner of the eye with shade Midnight Cowboy.

There you have this Smoked Copper Cut Crease.

Essentials For An At-Home Workout

I have been working out at home for a year now and I thought that I would share some of my secrets to help you get the most out of your work out.

I love working out at home. It saves money and I can fit it into my schedule accordingly since I work like a maniac (seriously, a day off, what’s that?).

Image result for work out lay flat

There is a rumour that because you don’t have access to “machines” that you aren’t getting the most out of your workout.

I’m here to tell you that’s not true, it all comes down to hard work, consistency, and dedication.

Silicone Sock

Image result for Silicone Socks for workout

I may have a weird obsession with these. I have several pairs of the ones pictured above. These are silicone socks for yoga however they’re perfect for working out at home.

Realistically I don’t wear shoes inside my house so these are perfect for gripping the floor whether you’re on hardwood or carpet.

For those with sensitive feet, the silicone beads on the bottom of the socks can not be felt and are very comfortable.

I recommend these for any activity when working out indoors at home. They will improve your grip and performance.

Lip Balm or Chapstick

Image result for EOS chapstick

Unfortunately with hard work and strenuous exercise comes dry and dehydrated lips.

Although I have talked about the  EOS Sphere Lip Balm not being my favourite on a makeup level. It is my favourite when it comes to working out.

Here’s why.

When you work out multiple days of the week this product is cheap and lasts forever. It will keep your lips hydrated for your whole work out and will not wipe away when sipping water.

Image result for burt's bees

Another Favourite of mine is the Burt’s Bees Replenishing Lip Balm. This is the product is 100% natural and has a mild pink tint to it.

I’m not saying you need these products, in general, to work out. Just have lip balm or chapstick in your workout area to keep your lips from getting dehydrated.

Basic Equipment

A Chair

If you read 3 At-Home Exercises Using A Chair, then you already know I love using everyday items to change up my routine.

Chair exercises are great because a) you will feel like a burlesque dancer and b) can exercise your whole entire body for free.

Dumbbells are great for changing up exercising or just simply diversifying them. Personally have multiple sets of dumbells to change up resistance, exercises, and reps.

I recommend having at least one pair of dumbells to be creative or to push yourself performance wise.

Resistance Bands

These are another creative way to push yourself and build strength at the same time. Resistance bands are cheap and there is a wide variety of tensions to help train your body.

This is a great way to replace A LOT of exercises that “machines” at the gym would target.

Yoga Block

Image result for yoga blocks

When I got my yoga block, I thought it was a lame tool that couldn’t possibly improve my performance.

WRONG! Very Wrong.

When I started using this to started elevating my exercises I found out the hard way this simple piece of equipment can take you from being sore to lying in bed.

Yoga blocks a great for increasing elevation for an array of activities and increasing stability. Despite the name, you don’t have to use it just for yoga.

I personally like using yoga blocks to elevate my core exercises.

Personal Future Goals

My at home workout space is a constant work in progress like myself on my weight loss journey.

In the next year, I hope to get some new mats, a bench, heavier dumbells and some kettlebells.

This way I’m keeping myself engaged in fitness as well constantly changing up routines by keeping them creative.
